I am feeling good because, after all the help and useful stuff I have learnt from this superb board and its expert and generous posters, I think I might be able to make a small contribution.
I see that several posters, including myself, have asked about putting animated images in user forms. The usual recommendation is to use the Web Browser control. This is simple and easy but seems to have the disadvantage of a permanent scroll bar embedded in it.
I searched the net for an alternative and found AniGif.ocx and several variants of it. All seemed to need registering at about $40 to $50 a time (an important consideration when you are retired and living on a small pension), many had irritating pop ups which could not be suppressed and several crashed Excel when I tried to use them.
But I also found DXAnimatedGIF.ocx which is freeware, no fees and no popups and works just like AniGif.ocx.
It can be downloaded from
http://spazioinwind.libero.it/vbprogzone/activex/acx020.html
After downloading unzip to WINDOWS/SYSTEM and/or WINOWS/SYSTEM32 and run the following command from DESKTOP/START/RUN
regsvr32.exe DXAnimatedGIF.ocx
It will then be available as an additional control in toolbox.
I have found it very simple to use and it works well.
Maybe everyone here already knows about it and uses it, but just in case there is another novice like me out there then I hope it will help him.

Hi there. I need some help.
I am writing a program in VB6 where i need to extract each frame from an animated gif, watermark each frame, then recompile the gif back to an animated gif.
The reason for this is i want to be able to watermark any animated gifs i pass through my program.
At the moment i am using AniGif.ocx which will allow me to view and extract each frame from the gif.
I am then using watermark factory pro to watermark each frame. I have looked at MakeGif 1.5 as it has command line support which i can send the details of the watermarked frames to recompile the gif, but an reluctant to buy, as i would rather have a control to do this.
I have looked far and long to try and find an activeX control that will alow me to both Read and write gif frames.
Does anyone have any info/ know where i can find such a control?
Please help.
Thanks Matt Addis
